Public invited to solar energy home tour

Dozens of homeowners in the Lompoc, Los Alamos and Santa Ynez Valley areas will showcase their homes to local visitors from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Oct. 6, during the Central Coast Solar Tour hosted by Santa Ynez Valley Solar.

This annual self-guided tour offers a chance for people to see and hear about the benefits of solar energy from homeowners.

“With continuing financial incentives, and the recent global-wide slash in system prices, we are seeing a huge increase in interest in solar energy. This is a perfect opportunity to get the real story from those who have already invested in this clean energy technology,” Santa Ynez Valley Solar owner Gary Gordon said.

In addition to the local tour, the American Solar Energy Society will host its 17th annual national solar tour, expecting to draw more than 150,000 visitors to 5,000 locations across the United States.

For more than years, the organization has led the renewable energy revolution with education, public outreach and advocacy.

The tour is free, and participants can enter to win a $2,500 or $1,000 gift certificate or a solar battery charger by going to www.ases.org/contest.
